What do I need to do to have a critical illness cover?
Fill up a critical illness application form, pay your initial premium, have medical examinations done (But we have extended the period to do medical exams to within 3 months of cover during this Covid period)
What are some of the critical illnesses?
Heart Attack ,Cancer, Stroke, Open Heart Surgery, Aortic surgery, Major organ transplant –of heart, lung , liver , kidney , pancreas , bone marrow, Accidental Brain Damage, Kidney Failure, Paralysis, Multiple sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, Dementia (including Alzheimer’s Disease), Parkinsonism, Connective Tissue Disease: Rheumatoid Arthritis, Coma, Muscular Dystrophy
Who pays for the medical examinations when I am buying a critical illness cover?
UAP Old Mutual takes care of the medical expenses in the selected list of providers.
What will it cost me to secure a critical illness cover?
The minimum premium cost is ksh.1000 per month.
Can I buy a severe illness cover for my loved one?
Yes, you however need to have insurable interest e.g spouse/child
How soon can I get severe illness benefits once I have purchased the cover?
Once the cover has been accepted. I.e. after you have paid your premiums and have successfully undergone medical examinations. (During this Covid period you can go on cover immediately without taking medical examination up front but they must be done within 3 months)
How much will I be paid when my critical illness cover matures?
Upon diagnosis of a critical illness (not maturity), UAP Old mutual pays you a lumspum amount ranging from 1 million to 15 million depending on the sum assured you bought. We pay you the whole amount upfront.
Will I be restricted to your panel of Hospitals when seeking treatment and management of severe illness?
No. You are free to seek treatment at a hospital of your choice, locally or abroad as the money is disbursed to you and not the hospital.
Who qualifies for Critical illness Cover
Anyone who is below the age of 55 and not younger than 18 years.
How long does the payment take?
Once you lodge a claim, submit medical reports and meet requirements, we shall make payment within 2 weeks.
What happens if the insured passes away?
We are interested in you keeping you alive by providing the money for treatment. However, there is an option to purchase life cover at the beginning of the policy, if a customer chooses the same, UAP old mutual will pay the nominated beneficiary the equivalent of the sum assured.
Is this a medical cover?
No this is not a medical cover in the sense that it does not pay for your normal diseases like malaria etc. It only pays in case you are diagnosed with a critical illness. Secondly, it pays you a lump sum upfront and does not limit you to a panel of hospitals.
If I take a 10-year plan is there any repercussions for not continuing to pay my premiums?
The cover is effective only for us long as you are paying premiums. There are no additional consequences for non- remittance of premiums.
Can I pay my premiums in installments?
Yes. You can pay your premiums monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually.
Is COVID-19 covered?
Covid-19 is not considered a critical illness. However, in case one dies from Covid-19, the policy will pay if they had picked the life option, which is part of the package.
